The u-shaped brick clad Italian Renaissance Revival at 2150 Washington was built in 1915 for Mary and Senator James Phelan by Charles Peter Weeks as Phelan's personal showplace to entertain dignitaries visiting the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Senator Phelan also built Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, currently the Montalvo Arts Center.
