2515 Scott Street

The Classical Revival at 2515 Scott was built by Clinton Day in 1899 for Elizabeth Chapin Tubbs, widow of Alfred L. Tubbs. Tubbs, who came to San Francisco during the Gold Rush to sell the cargo of two ships, with his brother Hiram, founded Tubbs & Co., a successful whaling fleet, as well as Tubbs Ropewalk (1857), a cordage mill on Potrero Hill. Tubbs served as CA state senator from 1865 to 1869. The Tubbs Cordage Co. building remains part of the Hyde Street Pier Maritime Museum.
