2501 Vallejo was built in 1905 by J.A. Deneen for Eugene E. Schmitz, San Francisco's 26th mayor (1902-07). Operating as The Norway House from 1941 until 2003, it was a home for Norwegian sailors, and used for international receptions prior to becoming a bed and breakfast. The Shingle style in San Francisco is often referred to as the First Bay Tradition. This home combines First Bay Tradition on a large scale with Arts & Crafts.
