Built by Judge Edwin Crocker in 1882 as a wedding gift for his daughter Aimee and R. Porter Ashe (Asheville, NC), the Gothic Queen Anne mansion designed by Curlett & Cuthbertson at Van Ness & Washington was one of the most glamorous residences of its day. After their divorce it was sold to the Walter Hobarts who lived there until 1906. Surviving the great fire, it became the temporary location for the City of Paris until falling to the wrecking ball in 1913.
